INTENSIVE ENGLISH
This is a full - time comprehensive English language course covering all the main language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. At the end of the course, students can opt to sit for an international examination such as Pitman ESOL, TOEFL or IELTS.

    Course Content:
    AMC's Full-Time Intensive English program is designed to offer school-leavers and adults an opportunity to develop English language skills as quickly and effectively as possible. The program is comprehensive, covering all the main language skills of speaking, listening, reading & writing. 10 weekly sessions are apportioned among the six modules that make up the course. A brief description of each of the modules is given below.
    • Oxford University Press : The core of the course, it is an integrated program in itself designed to develop all of the language skills in a manner that is both interesting and stimulating for the learner.
    • Grammar & Language Structure : Emphasizes the building of a strong foundation in grammar which is essential for the effective use of English.
    • Conversational English : Developing effective use of both oral and aural skills through conversation, group discussion and public speaking.
    • Vocabulary Building : Develops strategies to help you increase your command of English vocabulary.
    • Writing Workshop : Learning the techniques required to develop competency in writing.
    • There are 3 stages in the Full - Time Intensive English course and all students are assessed upon enrolment to allow placement into the suitable stage.

    English Competency Levels for Full-time Intensive English
    • STAGE 1 : Beginner to Elementary
    • STAGE 2 : Elementary to Intermediate
    • STAGE 3 : Intermediate to Higher Intermediate

    Multimedia Language Lab
    AMC's Multimedia Language Laboratory is equipped with 10 dedicated multimedia computers. Utilizing multimedia software from the US, UK and Singapore, students are able to practice their listening and speaking skills, as well as grammar, reading and vocabulary. Other resources available in this center include video tapes and CD Videos for viewing, a library, English reference books and audio tapes for students to borrow.

    Overseas (UK) Diploma
    Get an internationally-recognised Diploma in the English language! AMC's Full - Time Intensive English students are encouraged to sit for one level of the Pitman ESOL examinations from the U.K. at the conclusion of the course. Pitman ESOL is an internationally recognised examination and passes at the Higher Intermediate and Advanced levels are accepted as fulfilling English language entry requirements for a number of U.K. and Australian universities. Students who successfully pass both the ESOL and Spoken ESOL exams at a given level will be eligible for a Pitman Diploma for that level.

    Other available overseas examinations include IELTS and TOEFL.

    Activities
    Besides regular classroom and multimedia lab sessions, activities also play an important part of the Full - Time Intensive English program. These include both in and out of school activities. Recently organized activities include Scrabble competitions, drama performances, telematches, educational visits to various places of interest and social outings.

    Certificates
    At the end of each 10-week course, AMC Full - Time Intensive English students receive Certificates of Attendance, as well as Course Transcripts. Students who are successful in their Pitman ESOL examinations will receive a Pitman Certificate and/or Diploma from the United Kingdom.


    INTENSIVE IELTS
    This course is designed to help prepare students who intend to sit for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination. Past year question exercises, test-taking tips and general English review are all included to boost students’ confidence and get ready for this British Council sponsored examination which is used widely for acceptance purposes in U.K. and Australian universities.

  • INTENSIVE TOEFL
    This course is designed to help prepare students who are considering to sit for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination.

    TOEFL is the world's most widely-taken English proficiency examination and it can be used for entry into universities and colleges all over the world, including in the USA, Canada, U.K., Australia and New Zealand.

  • About TOEFL
    TOEFL stands for Test Of English as a Foreign Language . It is used to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. TOEFL is said to be the most widely recognized English language proficiency test in the would, and TOEFL scores are required for admission by over 2,400 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, as well as by countless other institutions of higher learning in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and others.

    The New Computer-Based TOEFL Test
    All Malaysian TOEFL candidates will be now take the examination on a computer (CBT). Two of the advantages of this new CBT system are easier scheduling (done individually) and faster score reports.

    The new test consists of four sections:
  • Listening - Measures ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America.
  • Structure - Measures ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
  • Reading - Measures ability to understand non-technical reading matter.
  • Writing - Measures ability to write in English on an assigned topic.

  • Registration For The TOEFL
    Scheduling for the TOEFL can be done by either phone, fax, or mail. If scheduling by fax or mail, the candidate must use the International Test Scheduling Form found in the TOEFL bulletin. Scheduling by phone requires payment by credit card. Candidates can select test dates which are convenient for them as all test scheduling is done on an individual basis. The examination fee is US $ 110.00 and checks, bank draft or money orders made payable to ETS-TOEFL are acceptable, as is payment by credit card.

    AMC students can obtain TOEFL bulletins from the college, while others can get a copy from the Ministry of Education, Examination Section, 4th Floor, Federal House

    AMC's TOEFL Course
    AMC's Intensive TOEFL Course helps students prepare for the TOEFL examination through a multi-faceted approach that includes activities strengthening a student's Vocabulary (including idioms and phrasal verbs), Listening Comprehension skills (North American speakers), Reading Comprehension skills and a thorough review of many commonly-tested Grammatical structures. Practice in tackling TOEFL style Essays is also included.

    In addition, AMC TOEFL students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new Computerized version of the test in our Multimedia Language Laboratory. Here students will learn how the new computerized test is to be conducted, what computer skills are required and what types of questions to expect.

    TOEFL Listening Skills
    This is an intensive TOEFL listening programme designed to help build up the types of listening skills which are tested in the TOEFL Listening Section (Section 1). Fully computer-based and run on a self-access basis, this course incorporates Practice Tests and diagnostic listening exercises designed to improve a candidate's ability to better comprehend spoken North American English.

  • CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH
    This is a suitable course to take if you wish to improve your ability to speak good English. Besides speaking and listening skills, the course will also cover important grammar and vocabulary items. It is a good first step for adults and working people who wish to increase their mastery of the English language. LEVEL: Elementary to Intermediate.

    SUNDAY ENGLISH
    This course is specially suitable for working people, students or anybody who is too busy to attend lessons during the week. In this course attention is given to learning and improving English conversation, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, reading and listening skills.

  • PRE-U ENGLISH
    This course is specially arranged for Pre-U students. The intensive course duration is 10 weeks full time and enrollment is open at any time.

    Basic Adult Learning English Programme
    The AMC's BALE is a specially designed programme for the adult non-English speaker or for those who have limited proficiency in English language.

    Learners will receive instruction in "survival English", verb forms, basic grammatical structures, vocabulary, and current idiomatic English usage.

    The Programme covers the main language skills of:
    • Listening
    • Speaking
    • Reading
    • Writing
    This Programme emphasizes role-plays, activities, visual display and multimedia aids through out the learning progress.

    Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to communicate effectively in English when they travel overseas, or to prepare learners to pursue other learning programmes in English medium.
